A returning customer in Sunbury-on-Thames got in touch because the front-door multipoint mechanism was no longer operating reliably. Sometimes the door would close normally, but at other times it could simply be blown open if it had not been locked.
Once on site, I tested the mechanism and found that the latch was sticking halfway and would not release properly.
This particular gearbox had an unusually small backset, so it was not one I carried in van stock. Rather than leave the customer with an insecure front door while the correct part was being sourced, I fitted a temporary overnight gearbox so the door could still be secured.
The correct replacement arrived the following day. I returned, fitted it and made the necessary adjustments to the locking system.
With the new gearbox installed and everything aligned properly, the latch and multipoint mechanism were working normally again.
