A customer in Ashford got in touch because the lock on the rear entrance of an apartment building had stopped working and the door was blocked shut.
When I arrived, the nightlatch was completely seized. I tried several ways of freeing it without damaging the door, but the failed latch would not move at all.
Eventually the grinder had to come out. Even then, the old nightlatch put up a respectable fight before I could finally release the door.
Once access had been restored, I removed the failed unit and fitted a replacement from van stock.
The communal rear entrance was then tested and left opening, closing and locking normally again.
