A customer in Staines got in touch because the garden French doors could no longer be locked.
Once on site, I removed the multipoint mechanism from the door and could immediately hear a loose part rattling around inside it. After a couple of shakes, the broken piece dropped out and confirmed that the failure was internal rather than simply an adjustment problem.
The damaged unit needed replacing. I had the correct replacement in van stock, so I fitted it during the same visit rather than leaving the doors out of action while waiting for parts.
I then carried out the adjustments needed to get the French doors lining up and operating correctly again.
This was another example of why it is worth dealing with a multipoint door while it is only becoming difficult to operate. At the time of this job, the eventual repair cost roughly twice what a straightforward alignment would have cost, assuming the failing part was still available at all.
