A returning customer in Shepperton asked me to look at the ceramic door knobs around the house because most of them had become loose, wobbly or were starting to come away from their spindles.
I try to help with this sort of hardware problem when there is a practical repair, although these little knobs kept me on my knees for a good couple of hours.
There were roughly 10 pairs in total and every one had to come off for adjustment. The existing screws were removed and discarded, the spindles were marked, drilled and threaded, and new bolts were fitted with thread locker before each knob set was reinstalled.
Repeated 10 times, that takes a while.
By the end, the loose and wobbling handles were properly secured again and the customer could use them without each turn threatening to leave a ceramic knob in their hand.
