A customer in Ashford got in touch because the front-door lock had developed an awkward fault. Once the door was locked, the key could not be removed, meaning they either had to leave the door unlocked or leave the key sitting in the cylinder when going out.
Once on site, I removed the cylinder and the cause became clear.
Through normal wear, repeated use and the force being applied during locking, the cylinder cam had shifted away from its correct neutral position. That meant the key’s removal position no longer lined up properly with the multipoint locking system.
The problem was therefore in the cylinder rather than the complete multipoint mechanism.
I had a suitable replacement in van stock. The customer chose a high-security cylinder, so I removed the faulty lock, fitted the upgraded replacement and tested it with the door both open and closed.
The key could once again be removed normally after locking and the front-door system was operating correctly.
