A customer in Ashford called late in the evening because the high-security lock on the front door had failed.
She had been lucky enough to get the door open first. The failure happened when she then tried to remove the key and the cylinder core partially pulled out, leaving the lock unusable.
High-security hardware still needs maintenance. On this door, the cylinder was working with an auto-deadlocking multipoint system, which can put more force through the lock than a conventional lift-handle setup. If the cylinder is dry or starting to bind, that extra resistance does it no favours.
The failed lock was beyond sensible repair, so I removed it and fitted a new high-security cylinder from van stock.
Once installed, I tested the key and locking operation and the complete door system was working normally again.
