A customer in Staines got in touch because a tenant had snapped the last available key in a Yale nightlatch and needed the lock sorted out.
Once on site, I started dismantling the lock to replace the failed barrel and found that the previous installation had been rather poorly finished. The holes for the rim protection bolts had never been made, and the backplate had not been fitted particularly well either.
The customer did not want the complete nightlatch replaced and reinstalled from scratch, so I kept the existing setup and changed only the barrel.
I fitted a same-standard replacement cylinder from van stock, cleaned the lock while it was apart and made the small adjustments needed to get the existing backplate and mechanism operating properly.
After reassembly, I tested the key and nightlatch operation and the lock was working correctly again.
