A former customer in Feltham got in touch because a garden door had stopped locking and asked me to find out what was wrong.
At first, I suspected a normal alignment problem. A closer look at the hinges changed that diagnosis very quickly: the top hinge was badly bent, the middle hinge was missing altogether and the bottom hinge was hanging on for dear life.
I explained the problem and quoted for replacing the failed hinges. I did not carry this particular hinge model in van stock, but I managed to source the correct replacements online and returned once they arrived.
With the new hinges fitted, I realigned the door properly and then checked the locking mechanism against the frame.
The garden door was once again sitting where it should, and the multipoint lock could operate normally instead of trying to compensate for a door being held up by one surviving hinge.
