A former customer in Isleworth asked whether I could help with the glass entrance door to a shop. The door had moved far enough out of position that it was rubbing against the side frame.
By the time I arrived, the contact was severe enough that a small chip had already come away from the glass-frame area. It was fortunate that the damage had not gone further.
I checked the usual adjustment points first. There was nothing useful left to gain from the door closer, and moving the door in the opposite direction would simply have made it rub against the frame on the other side. The hinges and clamps were all solid and properly secured.
That meant the frame spacing itself needed attention.
I removed the rubber seals, introduced silicone into the gap and used flooring packers to spread the frame carefully until there was enough clearance for the door to move freely. The seals were then refitted and the entrance tested.
It was not a conventional lock repair, but it solved the actual problem: the commercial glass door could open and close without continuing to grind against the surrounding frame.
