An estate agent in Isleworth got in touch because a garage door lock was no longer opening the door. The handle would simply spin with no resistance.
From that symptom, I suspected that the handle had become disconnected from the opening mechanism. Once on site, testing confirmed that the handle was no longer operating the door.
I managed to get a camera through a small gap and could see the cause: the operating cable had snapped and was hanging loose inside.
The next challenge was getting the garage open without the normal handle mechanism. I bypassed the failed locking system — I will keep the exact method to myself — and gained access without turning the door into a bigger repair.
Once open, I repaired the cable and handle mechanism and tested the complete operation. The garage door could once again be opened and secured normally.
