A former customer from Sunbury had moved to New Malden and got back in touch because the front door had become difficult to lock.
When I arrived, the first thing that stood out was the gap across the top of the door. It was large enough that I joked he hardly needed an outside light anymore because the gap was already doing the job.
The locking mechanism itself was not the main problem. The door had dropped out of alignment, so the multipoint system was being forced to work against the frame instead of lining up naturally.
I carried out the necessary adjustments, including a heel-and-toe correction, until the door was sitting properly again. Once the alignment was restored, the gap disappeared and the mechanism could lock and unlock easily rather than needing force.
It was a straightforward example of why a difficult multipoint lock does not automatically mean the gearbox has failed. Sometimes the door simply needs putting back where it belongs.
