A customer in Sunbury-on-Thames got in touch because the front-door multipoint locking system was no longer working properly.
The gearbox had failed and needed replacing.
I had the correct genuine replacement in van stock, but there was one difference from the original system: the newer gearbox no longer included the latch hold-back feature.
That meant the customer would lose the useful ability to hold the latch back temporarily when stepping outside briefly for things like putting out rubbish or bringing in shopping.
It was a feature I liked on the older design, but the current genuine replacement simply did not include it.
I fitted the new gearbox, made the small adjustments needed around the door and then tested the handle, key and multipoint locking points.
The door was locking and unlocking normally again, albeit without the old latch hold-back function.
