A customer in Sunbury-on-Thames wanted a cat flap installed in a patio door but was unsure how it could be done through the existing double glazing.
Because the door used toughened double-glazed glass, the existing pane could not simply be cut on site. The correct approach was to replace the complete sealed unit with a new one manufactured with the cat-flap opening already cut into the glass.
Once the customer had chosen the cat-flap brand and model, I measured the existing glazing and supplied the exact cut-out requirements to the glass manufacturer.
Five days later the new unit was ready.
I returned, removed the original double-glazed panel, fitted the replacement unit and installed the cat flap into the prepared opening.
The original sealed unit could also be kept by the customer, which meant the door could be returned to its previous configuration in future if the cat flap was no longer wanted.
