A customer in Sunbury got in touch for an emergency call-out after snapping the key in the door lock and still being unable to get the door open.
When I arrived, the lock was definitely putting up a fight. I eventually managed to get it to turn and open the door, but the broken piece of key was firmly stuck inside the lock.
I spent around 15–20 minutes trying to remove the broken key because, if I could get it out cleanly, there was a chance of saving the existing lock. It was not having any of it. The broken key was solidly jammed and there was no sensible reason to keep fighting with it.
The customer already had a different lock available, so I fitted that replacement instead. The immediate problem was solved, the door was secure again and the customer was no longer stuck because of the snapped key.
