A former customer in Walton-on-Thames called because the garden bi-fold door had come partly out of its guide and no longer looked safe.
A couple of hours later I was on site and found one of the hinges hanging on by roughly 1 mm of frame.
On first inspection, the door did not appear to have slipped naturally on the hinge. The damage looked much more consistent with the hinge having been positioned incorrectly when the doors were originally installed.
In the scorching heat, the customer helped hold the heavy door while I repositioned the hinge on the door and inside the frame guide.
The hinge itself was damaged and still needed replacing, but that temporary repositioning left us with a more-or-less usable door while I searched for the correct part.
Finding it turned into an evening’s work in itself and eventually involved help from another locksmith to identify a supplier.
The customer approved the cost and, two days later, I returned with the genuine upgraded replacement hinge.
Once fitted and adjusted, the bi-fold door was running properly again.
