A customer in Walton-on-Thames got in touch because a bedroom window had become draughty and wanted the cause investigated.
The existing hinge was no longer pulling the sash tightly enough against the frame to create a proper seal.
The window also had a separate restrictor that had seen better days. In my view, its position was not ideal because it was low enough to be accessible to children.
Rather than replace like-for-like, I fitted a new set of heavy-duty hinges with an integrated restrictor.
That allowed the sash to close tightly against the frame again while also moving the restricting function into the hinge arrangement itself.
After fitting and adjustment, the bedroom window was sealing and operating properly again.
