A customer in Ashford got in touch because the patio door would no longer lock.
I removed the multipoint mechanism from the door and tested it off the door. When force was applied through the handle, the upper section would bend out of shape, which pointed me towards a fault in the top part of the mechanism rather than the gearbox itself.
I removed the bolt section and checked the gearbox, which was working properly. On closer inspection I found another pin that had moved out of position and was grinding against the bolt casing, preventing it from engaging correctly.
I pushed the pin back into place, cleaned and lubricated the mechanism, then reassembled and tested everything. The patio door was locking properly again without needing a replacement gearbox. Another mechanism saved from the scrap pile rather than changed unnecessarily.
