A former customer in Ashford got in touch because she was not happy with the way her garden gate was being secured. A small padlock was being used and the outside of the gate also had exposed fixings that did very little to inspire confidence.
She decided on a gate lock operated by key from both sides, and I was able to fit it during the visit. The opening was very narrow, which explained why there was not a four-inch post available to work with, so the installation had to make sensible use of the space that was there.
After discussing the options, I explained that the best practical position for the bolt was into a hole in one of the bricks. That meant the gate did not have to sit at an awkward angle simply to line up with a separate keep.
It was not the most substantial gate arrangement I have ever worked with, but the finished setup was a clear improvement on the exposed screws and small padlock that were there when I arrived.
