A customer in Ashford got in touch because the patio door lock was not working properly and they were struggling to open and close the door.
Once on site, I tested the multipoint mechanism and the fault became clear very quickly. The gearbox had badly worn internal components and was already giving intermittent problems rather than failing in one consistent way.
At that stage, adjustment alone was not going to solve it. I had the correct replacement available in van stock, so I removed the worn gearbox and fitted the new one.
I then adjusted the patio door so the multipoint locking points lined up properly with the frame and the replacement mechanism was not being forced unnecessarily.
Once everything was tested, the patio door was opening, closing and locking properly again. “Door multipoint locking system” is still a bit of a mouthful, but at least this one was working properly by the time I left.
