A friend in Ashford wanted the lock changed on an exterior wooden door. Once I looked at the existing hardware, I suggested replacing the worn handle at the same time because both had clearly seen better days.
He was also not a fan of the traditional long mortice-lock keys, so changing the complete setup gave us an opportunity to move to something more convenient.
I removed the old hardware and fitted a new fire-rated sashlock case together with a British Standard 3-star euro cylinder.
The door itself was a solid 44 mm hardwood door, so with the new lock and cylinder fitted it was a substantial setup. As I joked at the time, you would need a tank to get through it — or a skilled locksmith, but I did not tell him that part. 😄
Once everything was installed and adjusted, the new handle, sashlock and cylinder were all operating properly.
