A customer in Feltham called because the front door could no longer be opened and the family had been forced to use the side door instead.
The handle would simply spin round without any feedback from the locking system, which pointed to a failure inside the multipoint mechanism.
Opening the door was the difficult part. The failed mechanism had jammed in place and had to be worked back far enough for the door to release.
After a fair amount of persistence, the mechanism finally moved and I got the door open without damaging the usable handles or cylinder.
This particular replacement was not something I carried in normal van stock, so I secured the door closed until the new part arrived the following day.
I returned, fitted the replacement mechanism and tested the complete system.
Because the existing handles and cylinder were still perfectly serviceable, they were retained rather than replaced unnecessarily.
